Description: Painted Log Coffin from Arnhem Land

This log coffin was collected in the late 1960's and measures 21 inches in length. It is painted with ochres and displays Mimi spirits and cross-hatching. Apart from a small chip at the top and two splits, the condition is good. The bones of the dead were stored in these containers.

This Wandjina Water Carrier Basket is by Lily Karadada and measures 25 x 10 x 8 inches. This style of basket is unique to the Kimberley region of WA. This basket was made in 1995 and features Wandjina figures and Turtles. The ochre has some small areas of loss, but overall the condition is very stable. Two similar baskets realised AUD$2585 each at Deutscher~Menzies Aboriginal Art Auction, Melbourne 27/06/00 (lots 3 and 4).

These four Aboriginal clubs range in size from 11 to 19 inches in length. They were collected in Queensland in the 1950's and are thought to be examples of early tourist artefacts.

This boomerang measures 29 inches in length. The top surface of this boomerang is incised with an alternating pattern of lines; the underside is plain. This boomerang was collected in the late 1950's and is believed to be from Central Australia.
