| Description: Early Bark Paintings |
|
These exceptionally beautiful and old bark paintings were collected in the South East Queensland town of Caboolture in 1946. They were given to a road worker by an Aboriginal friend believed to be from the Northern Territory. They measure from left to right 17 x 8, 30 x 13, 30 x 13, 36 x 17 and 36 x 15 inches. These unusual bark paintings have a very primitive aesthetic and are clearly old. The style is difficult to pinpoint as no reference to other works can be found. Several experts have suggested the origin is probably the Northern Territory but can not be sure. The paintings have borders reminiscent of early works from Port Keats but that is where the simliarity ends. The paintings are in very good conditon but some show evidence of borer (inactive). Some of the bark shows splits and slight deterioration but this would be expected in works of this age. Price: buy this item |
