The artist was Butcher Joe Nangan, who specialised in carving these rare pictorial Lonka Lonka's. This attractive bark measures 21x35 inches and was collected in Port Keats (Wadeye, Western Australia) in 1984. The artist is Charlie Mardigan 1926-1986. Charlie Mardigan was one of the most famous Wadeye artists. The dreaming represented shows a man and a woman head to head. They have been dispossessed and are dreaming of their homeland. The white mounds at the edge represent their fingers/hands on their hearts. It is interesting to note that this dreaming also appears in a painting by famed Turkey Creek artist Jack Britten (for sale on this site). Price: buy this item |
